Avian & Exotics Diagnostics

West nile virus (rtPCR) – Avian & Exotics

The West Nile Virus (rtPCR) Test is a precise molecular diagnostic tool used to detect the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) RNA in avian species. WNV, a mosquito-borne flavivirus, is a significant cause of neurological disease in birds. The virus is zoonotic, meaning it can also affect humans and other animals, making its detection in birds critical for controlling outbreaks and protecting public health. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (rtPCR) is the gold standard for diagnosing WNV due to its high sensitivity, specificity, and rapid turnaround time.
