Equine Arteritis Virus (rtPCR)
The Equine Arteritis Virus (EAV) rtPCR test is a highly sensitive molecular diagnostic tool used to detect the presence of Equine arteritis virus in equine biological samples, such as blood and semen. EAV is the causative agent of equine viral arteritis (EVA), a contagious viral disease transmitted through respiratory secretions, venereal routes, or infected semen. EVA can cause fever, nasal discharge, conjunctivitis, limb swelling, abortion in pregnant mares, and reduced fertility in stallions.The rtPCR method identifies viral RNA with precision, making it particularly valuable for diagnosing acute infections, detecting asymptomatic carriers (especially in breeding stallions), and monitoring outbreaks. Early and accurate detection allows veterinarians to implement quarantine protocols, manage breeding programs, and reduce the risk of disease spread. This test is also critical for international trade and breeding operations, as EVA status is often required for equine import/export compliance.

Collection Guidelines
- Collect an adequate amount of blood in a K3EDTA (purple top tube). Gently mix blood well after collection. Refrigerate sample at 4oC until shipment..
- Collect 2 ml of Semen in a plain red-top tube and label it as “semen.”
- Refrigerate sample at 4oC until shipment.

Packing Instructions
Label each sample with the animal’s name and a unique identifier, using a permanent marker or a secure adhesive label. Ensure the submittal form is completed with the animal’s information and relevant medical history.
