Parathyroid Hormone related protein (PTHrp) – Equine

Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) is a diagnostic biomarker often evaluated in patients suspected of having certain hypercalcemic disorders, including malignancy-associated hypercalcemia. PTHrP testing is particularly useful in identifying paraneoplastic syndromes associated with tumors that secrete PTHrP, as this protein can elevate calcium levels in the bloodstream independently of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Measuring PTHrP levels provides valuable insights into the underlying causes of hypercalcemia, helping to effectively distinguish between primary hyperparathyroidism, neoplastic conditions, and other disorders that impact calcium metabolism.
