Cytology Evaluation by DACVP - Equine

The Cytology – Aspirate/Smear test involves the microscopic evaluation of cellular material obtained through fine-needle aspiration or impression smears, which will be evaluated by a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (DACVP).

5-6 Air dried smears or good quality stained smears

  • Provide the origin of the aspirate (i.e. oral mass, abdominal fluid), brief clinical description and history.

  • Submission of 2-6 slides is typically sufficient for cytologic evaluation from each source.

  • Additional charges is applied when 10 or more slides are received for each source.

  • Label each sample with the animal’s name and a unique identifier, using a permanent marker or a secure adhesive label

  • Ensure the submittal form is completed with the animal’s information and relevant medical history.
