Metal & Mineral Panel

Avian & Exotics (ICP/MS)

The Metal & Mineral Panel (ICP/MS) test employs inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry (ICP/MS) to measure levels of essential metals, trace minerals, and toxic elements. This test targets manganese, cobalt, copper, iron, molybdenum, selenium, zinc, arsenic, cadmium, lead, and thallium. Accurate quantification of these elements is critical for diagnosing deficiencies, imbalances, or toxicities that can affect metabolic processes, organ function, and overall health in animals. Samples such as blood and serum are analyzed with high sensitivity and specificity, enabling early detection and precise assessment. This panel is particularly valuable for evaluating nutritional status, environmental exposures, and toxicological risks in companion and performing animals.

1 ml heparinized plasma

  • Collect an adequate amount of blood in a plain green-top tube

  • Centrifuge to separate the plasma. Transfer the clear serum into a new, leak-proof plain red-top tube and label it as "Plasma."

  • Excessively hemolyzed samples are not suitable for this test.

  • Unspun samples will not be accepted.

  • Refrigerate sample at 4oC until shipment

  • Label each sample with the animal’s name and a unique identifier, using a permanent marker or a secure adhesive label.

  • Ensure the submittal form is completed with the animal’s information and relevant medical history.
