Tick-borne Pathogen Panel (rtPCR)
The Tick-borne Pathogen Panel (rtPCR) uses real-time polymerase chain reaction (rtPCR) to detect DNA from multiple tick-borne pathogens, including species from the Rickettsiales, Borrelia, and Babesia genera. This comprehensive panel is designed to identify a range of pathogens commonly associated with tick-borne diseases in animals, which can present with symptoms like fever, lethargy, joint pain, anemia, and, in severe cases, neurological issues. Specifically, the panel detects Rickettsiales species (Ehrlichia canis, E. chaffeensis, E. ewingii, Rickettsia rickettsii, and Anaplasma phagocytophilum), Borrelia species (B. burgdorferi, B. hermsii, B. parkeri, B. turicatae), and Babesia species (B. gibsoni, B. canis, B. caballi). The high sensitivity of rtPCR allows for early detection, even at low pathogen levels, which is essential for timely diagnosis and intervention.
2 ml EDTA whole blood
Collect an adequate amount of blood/bone marrow in a K2EDTA (purple top tube). Gently mix blood well after collection. Refrigerate sample at 4oC until shipment.
Label each sample with the animal’s name and a unique identifier, using a permanent marker or a secure adhesive label
Ensure the submittal form is completed with the animal’s information and relevant medical history.
